Yet another record is set in. This time it is hectic for the State award committee of 2008-2009. The 74 Kannada films are in the fray for contest to win awards in 20 plus categories.
Hitherto the last year State Award committee viewed the maximum of 48 movies and 74 films in the 2008-2009 Karnataka State Award list is something unheard so far in the history of Kannada cinema says the information department sources. The highest number of films released in the last year – 118 perhaps is the reason for this 74 films entering the state awards fray.
The list of 74 films are – Dhimaku, Kabbaddi, Mussanje Mathu, Anthardahana, Haru Hakkiya Neru, Chaitrada Chandrama, Kalakaar, Chandulli Chaluve, Chaitanya, Ambari, Vamshi, Maghadha Moda, Gaggara (Tulu), Vasthava, Anthara Gange, Nee Nanna Manasu, Preethiya Theru, Kannadadha Kiran Bedi, Karanthajjanigondu Pathra, Kesarina Kamala, Chenna, Malegala, Prashne, Navile Navile, Venkata in Sankata, Psycho. Nanda Deepa, Neene Neene, Samskaravantha, Birugali, Dharode, Hasiru Usiru, Navagraha, Bettadapuradha Ditta Makkalu, Nishedhagne, Ganesha Mathe Bandha, Ijjodu, Junglee, Slum Bala, Josh, Sangama, Neenyare, Mukhaputa, Vimukthi, Megha Varshini, Moggina Manasu, Shankara Punyakoti, Thabbali, www.bhaya.com, Taxi No.1, …, (titled for award as Niranthara), Nannusire, Ajantha, Chanaksha, Meghana, Baana, Kanana, Ganga Cauveri, Sona (Lambani), PUC, Aramane, Taj Mahal, Payana, Idya Madyara, Gnanajyothi Sri Siddaganga, Mandakini, Akka Thangi, Beli Hola, Circus, Mannina Madilu, Prachanda Ravana, Gange Bare Thunge Baare and E Sambhashane.
Exactly 50 percent of the films are directed by newcomers to cinema direction. Whether the Government of Karnataka is going to announce the new state film award committee or the recently constituted Kannada Chalanachitra Academy is going to choose the best from the lot is not yet known.
According to reliable sources it is the duty of Cinema Academy to decide on the state awards. Meanwhile the Subsidy committee headed by Dwarakish the veteran actor, director and producer is shortly announcing the 30 quality Kannada films. From the next year the subsidy of Rs.10 lakhs to quality Kannada films is given to 50 Kannada films.
