Posted date: 13/September/2009

On Saturday afternoon the Tamil film the swarna Kamal film of the recent 55th national awards ‘Kancheevaram’ was arranged for special screening by Prakash Rai the lead actor in the film for which he got the national best actor award.

Umasri the national best actress for ‘Gulabi Talkies’ watching the film ‘Kancheevaram’ became very emotional and as she happens to be from the weavers community in Uttar Kannada the subject was very touching for her. Umasri recalled her earlier days of her father earning from weaving and later as she became MLC how she met the weavers in dire streets. She quoted the example of a woman urging her for Rs.400 which she has to get from her three months weaving job. The natural actress Umasri was natural in expressing the ordeals of the weavers. Umasri also remembered the proverb ‘Nekarara Balu Yavathigu Betthale’.

Such a touching subject in ‘Kancheevaram’ was also very moving one for Dr Jayamala the KFCC President.

Prakash Rai honored the national best actress Umasri, best regional film award winning producer Basanth Kumar Patil on this occasion.
