G MURTHY DIRECTOR AND ART DIRECTOR NO MORE

One of the pillars of the art direction department in Kannada cinema G Murthy who is also known for rare picks in his direction from ‘Kurunaadu’ passed away on Saturday morning. He had a severe heart attack and collapsed with a lot of dreams unfulfilled.

G Murthy hails from Bengaluru and has been in the art department for the last five decades. For GV Iyer ‘Hamsageethe’ he commenced as art director assistant. Later he worked in Malayalam, Telugu and Tamil films. He worked in the famous cameraman Mandhu Ambat team as art director and Krishnamurthy G alias G Murthy first independent art direction is ‘Nayaka’ Kanada film.

Art director of over 75 films such Veerappa Nayaka, Devara Kadu, Aragini, Urvashi, Munjaneya Manju, Thalipooje, Rangenahalliyage Rangada Range Gowda, Maduve, Halliyaderanu Shiva, Andaman, Sambrama, Mayabazaar, Indra Dhanush, Ghale Aliyandru, Simhadriya Simha, Sainika and others G Murthy got state award for ‘Chandra Chakori’ and ‘Kurunaadu’ Kannada films.

State award winning art director turned director G Murthy directed Shankara Punyakoti, Sidda Ganga, Halliya Makkalu, Aralida Hoogalu, Sugandhi and his last film won national and international acclaim ‘Bimba aa 90 Nimishagalu’.

G Murthy had a few more dreams to fulfill but he had to abide for the call of ‘Yamadharma’.
