I BECAME VERY CLOSE TO PEOPLE OF KARNATAKA ? DR SPB

The evergreen singer of South India Dr SP Balasubramanyam feels that from 300 episodes ‘Edhe Thumbi Hadidehenu’ music based program in ETV Kannada he has become very close to the people of Karnataka and of course to the film industry people. A chat with DR SPB and Jayanth Kaikini the famous lyricist was arranged by ETV Kannada at the shooting location of 300 episodes of ‘ETH’ on Thursday morning.

With a mega success like ‘ETH’ in ETV Dr SPB is contemplating on a music based program for physically handicap, blind and 50 plus people in the coming days. When I stop getting enjoyment I stop being a part of this kind of program says the doyen in singing. Conducting ETH every episode was like a marriage. We have enjoyed so much without any distraction. The environment was good the method of the program was simple and always aimed at fine tuning.

Children singing the elder singer songs are above the age limit and not according to the academic portions – this is what Dr SPB is not ready to agree. Singing is in born. They are taught music and then only come here. Any child prodigy may be anywhere. It is our duty to give a platform.

At one point of time of his media address at Kanteerva studios Dr SPB disclosed what he preached only he told at all the episodes. I too have weaknesses but not advised what I did not practice. He quoted the signal light as the example in the traffic. People now say me I have become a good man Baluji laughed.

I have gone through introspection. I myself do not know the Ragas and still sing in the last 42 years. This particular ‘ETH’ program was also missed with good words and with no drama we have effectively conducting it he said.

This was like ‘Anna Saaru’ for the budding singers. It has earned the listeners of music. The value and dignity was high. For me ‘ETH’ was like ‘Cultural Piligrimage’ says the top ranking lyricist Jayanth Kaikini. There was holistic taste. Cultural activity was context of life too opined Jayanth Kaikini.
