K.CHINNAPPA UNSUNG HERO OF FILMDOM!

Very quiet in behavior but fabulous in his contribution from last six decades as poster painter of Kannada filmdom from ‘Bedara Kannappa’ in 1954 to ‘Shourya’ in 2010 K.Chinnappa aged 74 is a man of fine touch.

He has painted the posters of over 3000 films in Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, English and Hindi languages. A resident of Bangalore running Rajakamal Arts in Gayathri Nagar Chinnappa is from the agriculture family. He started playing with brush at the age of five drawing pictures whatever he had seen.

Educated up to fourth standard he had to leave schooling as painting and brush dragged him like magnetic force. He moved to southern film activity capital Madras and joined Seenu Arts. He is the mentor of Seenu who taught him the systematic manner of painting.

Not only films Chinnappa is also painter of some of the exotic temples of India. 18 of his temples of India paintings were purchased by western countries. In places like USA, Sydney, Australia Hotel Kolam Chinnappa paintings are displayed. One of the exhibition displays attracted the diamond jeweler Raghunath Sait and he immediately bought six of Chinnappa paintings.

With not much of familiarity Chinnappa has received 70 shields and more than 22 awards are bestowed on him. He has made 100 feet cut out painting of Dr Rajakumar for Bhale Jodi, for Dhaari Thappida Maga, Bangaradha Manushya he has alone painted 60 feet paintings of Dr Rajakumar. Almost all the films of Dr Rajakumar film paintings are from the painting brush of Chinnappa.

He has caught the attention of ace West Indies cricketer Larry Gomes during his visit to India for playing test cricket. Larry Gomes bought of his painting.

‘Others feeling satisfied from my work is my work satisfaction’ says Chinnappa.

From 23rd of August to 30th of August K Chinnappa Ajantha, Ellora, Badami, Sun Temple of Konark, Aihole and other temples paintings exhibition is taking place at Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat. 27 paintings of huge size Chinnappa painted from last one and half years.

Ashok Kheney, Shivarajakumar, TS Nagabharana, T Prabhakar, B Jayasri, Yusuf Arakkal, BKS Verma are attending the inauguration of K Chinnappa paintings exhibition.
