Posted date: 1/July/2010

At the budding age Abhisekh Kasargod drawing his attention on the unsung hero of our nature ‘Kukka’ is something admirable and shows his unique thought right from the beginning of independent direction and cinematography.

Abhisekh son of highly reputed cinema journalist and author of books Ganesh Kasargod struggled in the deep forest to get a small autobiography on ‘Kukka’. Ganesh Kasargod is the producer of this ‘Kukka’ Helidha Maradha Kathe.

‘Kukka’ is the nature god in the serene Kaniyaaru forest. He is the nature doctor to be precise. He does no know his age but has crossed the barriers in lending medical aid via plants. The glory of ‘Kukka’ in
Kaniyaru situated five kilometers away from Kumbra town near Puttur is a dense forest. Attached to this forest is a house of Tahsildhar Vishwanathanna. Attached to this house is the old and dilapidated house of ‘Kukkajja’.

‘Kukka’ is uneducated but able to recite the lines of Rashtrakavi Kuvempu. Kukka brought up 14 children of Vishwanathanna and most of them are doctors and engineers today. Kukka knows every bit of the forest resources, animals and birds living around him in the small pocket of Western Ghats. He is not married and looks like a tribal. He has a bow and arrow in his hand and an old bag to his back. He goes out of the forest only for two reasons to get newspaper for Vishwanathanna and full his stomach with liquor. Kukka also has the habit of narrating the tales to the school children. One day Kukka forced to sit in an autorikshaw but he jumps out of it. He receives blood on his leg but finds his own medicine via leaves from the plants.

One fine day the city bred lecturer comes in search of Kukka for a medicine to a particular disease. Kukka takes him to a huge tree that has embraced several other trees to pluck a medicine. ‘Kukka’ narrates the tale of the tree to the lecturer.

He finds his own medicine and this rare personality who does not know his age is the ambassador of forest. He has a slogan to make ‘Buddhi Illadha Maragale Heege Appikondu Badhuku Nadasiruvaga Buddhi Iruva Manushyaneke Jaaathi, Matha, Dharma Antha Jagala Adodhu’. This is ‘Kukkajja’ ‘vishwamanava’ message.

Abhisekh Kasargod has made this 24 minutes short film handled the cinematography besides direction. The crystal clear shots and thick forest captured in the DSR 400 video camera! His cinematography is the second cynosure after ‘Kukka’.
