PUTTANNA AWARD KODLU UNHAPPY

Like the previous years, this year awards declaration by government of Karnataka for 2018 for films and its fraternity is not free from unhappiness.

The prominent award of SR Puttanna Kanagal award evolved in 1986 was bestowed on the basis of senior in most of the cases till now. The year 2018 award for director crowned on eminent director P Seshadri is what perturbed very senior director like Kodlu Ramakrishna a veteran entered the field as director in 1988.

P Seshadri was teenage boy when I started direction in 1988. He entered as director from ‘Munnudi’ in 2006. Look at the long gap here of 18 years. Like me there were Sunil Kumar Desai, NR Nanjunde Gowda and Joe Simon in the list. Just because P Seshadri directed five films for Basanth Kumar Patil he was picked for prestigious award. I don’t argue on the achievement of P Seshadri – he has directed films like Bharat Stores, December 1, Bettada Jeeva, Vidhaaya and Beti for Basanth Kumar Patil production.

Basanth Kumar Patil heading the committee to select three prominent awards of Puttanna, Dr Raj and Dr Vishnu awards for lifetime achievement obviously has shown interest on his director P Seshadri.

This is nothing but partiality and keeps me very disappointed says Kodlu Ramakrishna. I have directed 14 novel based films in my career of 30 films says Kodlu Ramakrishna speaking over telephone.

In the days of vested interests and waging legal battle for not getting awards, the simple and humble personalities like Kodlu Ramakrishna remain silent.
