In a freewheeling chat with eminent comedy actor, director of good caliber and music director par excellence Sadhu Kokila many new things got revealed from his straight forward answers to a few of the media questions.

Here are the excerpts of his frank admissions and knowledgeable thoughts:

• If I am given enough money and asked to direct a film of my choice, I get spoiled. Money is one such tempting one it makes us to go beyond. I cannot do the direction like that. A producer goes on serving the requirements is best for me.

• I have subjects for all the top stars. Can they stop accepting remake films? I am not for remake films.

• Remake spoils our strength. We are told to do everything accordingly. This is also the problem with the producers. They should stop going to heroes with CD’s in their pocket.

• I have a series of subjects that suit our Kannada stars. As of now on hand I am having ‘Anarkali’. The first schedule is over and waiting for Srinagara Kitty to return. Kitty has tonsured portion of his head for the film ‘Ko Ko…Koli Kothi’ – a real making cinema.

• A making cinema requires lot of time. I appreciate Bharani Minerals in doing that kind of cinema. For every shot time is required and everything is decided in the story board. It is about 90 days shoot and I also part of the cast in that film.

• Come September 18, Upendra birthday we sat together and cancelled Malayalam film remake. That was the wish of producer Munirathna Naidu. We explained the failure of the film in all the three languages. He agreed for another Upendra’s straight subject.

• On September 18 we are launching a fresh subject with story and dialogues from Upendra. I will be directing, acting in comedy role and scoring music. Ramya is the heroine of the film.

• I am satisfied as a comedy actor more than a music director sometimes. Kalle Usli was my food 30 days during the Ganeshotsavas.

• I produced ‘No 1’ a decade ago and it cost heavily for me. In those days I lost Rs.45 lakhs. It was a well made film.

• When I took up 90, my wife told is it required for me. I convinced her that I am not investing big amount and whatever I have earned I am investing. She kept quiet and felt I cannot be changed.

• From 90 I got 90 lakhs Television right from Mr Selvam of Udaya TV. He had instructed in his office very clearly at the start of my film that all help should be given to this film.

• One day he invited me to his office – new office and showed the department. I appreciated him for marvelous growth. Mr Selvam immediately said it is the sweat of people like Sadhu Kokila. That is true in the beginning days I have done tremendous work for Udaya TV.

• I have started music director for a Lambani film ‘Jadiro Pankhero’ and in Kannada I began with ‘Sh….that has given me life for 10 years.

• I have a tale related to my Lambani film music. I was sitting in one of the shops. A person was standing behind me. When I was introduced as Sadhu Kokila the person standing behind me said he wants to talk to me. He took me outside and started humming the score I have made. He did not care for the rain that was lashing.

• There are some fans who come and say Sir Olle Comedy sir…When I tell them I am also music director they say Sir Neevu music director saha Madthira!

• Comedy is my first choice and that is of course for money. I can demand Rs.1 lakh per day.

• It is true that I am permanent re-recording specialist for Mano Murthy films. He is busy and stays in California. That is the reason for his work coming to me. The real music according to me is in Re-recording scoring.

• Today scoring music is easy. Even Hamsalekha also waits for Keyboard player to store it for him. For Dhuniya film I took 22 days time for re-recording. It is a tough job according to me.

• Working on contract is also not feasible. For one song we have to spend Rs.5 lakhs if the singer is Sonu Nigam.

• After ‘90’ release I am planning for ‘Jilebi’ and ‘Dashavathara’. Of course Upendra, Ramya film is on top of priority.
