`TIME AND TEAM` GOOD FOR SHENOY `PRARTHANE`
Posted date: 7/December/2009

It has been long time wish of our one of the best colleagues Mr Sadashiva Shenoy that is heard by the almighty and given green signal via ‘Prarthane’ Kannada film that is on Kannada language and Karnataka culture and tradition. In fact the ‘Prayer’ meaning ‘Prarthane’ of Shenoyji is materializing with all facets fulfilling. He could not take up ‘Mathrubhoomi’ for lack of good support he expected.

A film journalist par excellence a veteran indeed Shenoy with roots in Belthangady is carving a niche in direction with solid work in the four walls with another journalist JM Prahallad. Prahallad has written script for film and television serials is already a well known name. Shenoy has recently acted in small screen, written books on stars, walked with stars in his television program and his chat show for radio channel given him good standing.

The subject of ‘Prarthane’ conducive to stars like Sudeep or Ramesh Aravind has gone to the versatile actor Ananthnag as he is the one who could change the whole complexion of the film. The film ‘Prarthane’ starts off with an admission to the child. Whether the child should be admitted to English medium or Kannada medium is the issue that crops up in the family of Ananthnag and Sudharani.

What Ananthnag feels is that it is the right time such attempts are made to save the Kannada language. In the rural the Kannada language is safe and in urban areas the primacy is not given. How to give primacy there is an answer but it is not properly installed he says. The concept is very near to Ananthnag and that is one of the reasons for him to accept this film.

This story is in the making from last five years says JM Prahallad. According to him the present situation is ripe to handle this kind of subject. Ramachandra Aithan takes up his 75 film and his first ‘Sankalpa’ and 75th is starring Ananthnag. There is only one prayer song that will be scored by Veer Samarth who is the mentor of Bharat Rathna Bhimsen Joshi.

‘Prarthane’ is a high budget off beat film and a low budget commercial cinema you could call it says Shenoy. For producer Harish and Gangadhar this is going to give a new angle to the people in the society to change over in attitudes.
