RAJAN OF RAJAN NAGENDRA DUO NO MORE

This year has been very tragic with Corona Pandemic on the one side and legends passing away is additional set back to the Indian film industry.

The 87 years epoch making music director of South India of nearly 375 films in which over 250 are for Kannada films – Rajan Nagendra duo fame Rajan passed away on Sunday night around 10.30 pm. Nagendra, his brother music omposer, had passed away in 2000.

Rajan Nagendra duo has given impeccable and memorable music to Kannada films. The duo changed the whole pattern of complete melody.

Rajan born in 1933 got training from his father B Rajappa and Sangeetha Vidwan. For Rajan and Nagendra, father is the key inspiration. Rajan first evinced interest in violin and got rank in examinations. He later learnt various music instruments and moved to Sri Padmanabha Shastri to get training.

It was in 1952 ‘Sowbhagya Lakshmi’ Rajan Nagendra commenced their journey. Kanyadhana, Muttaide Bhagya, Mantralaya Mahatme got a foothold for the duo. Veera Sankalpa, Gandhada Gudi, Chalisuva Modagalu, Kittu Puttu, Devara Duddu, Parasangada Gendethimma, Eradu Kanasu, Hombisilu, Balayu Daari further strengthened the duo in the music field that attached highest prominence to melody.

In over 5 languages the duo worked and it was in 2000 Nagendra passed away. Rajan continued his journey with his son Ananth. The duo worked in over five languages in their peak period from 1950 to 1990.

For Eradu Kanasu and Parasangada Gendethimma the best music director’s state award was given and for Panthulamma Telugu film Andhra Pradesh state award was given for Rajan Nagendra.
