VETERAN CAMERAMAN SV SRIKANTH NO MORE

One of the prolific and highly acclaimed cameramen of black and white era and color SV Srikanth passed away on Thursday evening at his Bengaluru residence near Domlur. He was 87 years. The cremation would take place at Kalapalli on Friday morning.

An assistant of ace cameraman Madhusoodhan, SV Srikanth made debut from ‘Gejje Pooje’ Kannada cinema in 1970. His film completed 50 years of release recently.

Srikanth SV was roommate of another gem cinematographer DV Rajaram in Madras now Chennai. Srikanth spread his wings in South Indian films but he worked as cameraman for nearly 50 films of Dr Rajakumar. SV Srikanth and DV Rajaram shared professional work for a few films too.

Known for using source lights and trick shots, some of his exemplary works are seen in ‘Babruvahana’ in which Dr Rajakumar as Arjuna and Babruvahana encounter in single frame. Dr Rajakumar as Arjuna in seven different get up and playing instrument in the song ‘Aaradisuve Madhanari…all seven of Dr Rajakumar in one frame was also the brilliancy of this director SV Srikanth.

SV Srikanth with Jayaram jointly produced a film like ‘Galate Samsara’ that starred Dr Vishnuvardhana and Rajanikanth.

SV Srikanth got state award for Gejje Pooje, Margadarshi and Upasane. Some of his brilliant works are found in films like Prema Mayi, Manasiddare Marga, Hannale Chiguridaaga, Margadarshi, Karulina Kare, Namma Samsara, Edakallu Guddada Mele, Babruvahana, Jeevana Chaitra and others.
