Avre Sala Iskondu Badidru. When I asked him to give one rupee because I had not eaten for two days, he took 50 paisa and said this is what he has. Who is that person? Well known director SK Bhagwan came to know about him in GV Iyer house.
In GV Iyer house in Madras Bhagwan was baffled. It is because the same man who gave 50 paisa for him was found. Iyer took Bhagwan to task for asking loan and not coming to his house directly for food. Iyer introduced that Dorai cameraman of his team. He also told Bhagwan that 50 paisa what he got yesterday was loan he had given to Dorai. It was Bhagwan term to salute the good heart of Dorai.
Very soon Dorai and Bhagwan became friends and the same ‘Dorai=Bhagwan’ duo directed a number of Dr Rajakumar films too. Jedara Bale, Kasturi Nivasa, Eradu Kanasu, Bayalu Dhaari, Gaali Mathu, Chandanadha Gombe, Hosa Belaku, Benkiya Bale, Jeevana Chaitra etc.
The journey of Dorai and Bhagwan was fruitful, disciplined and showed a new wave for Kannada filmdom. The 78 years veteran SK Bhagwan remembered the mentor GV Iyer and his long time friend Dorai both not living today at the GV Iyer birth anniversary on Saturday evening at Renukamba Digital theatre.
