Some directors who are new to Kannada cinema try to create new magic on screen. Leave the regular style behind and embrace the possibilities. "Dew Embraced and Pulled" which opened this week Ibbani Tabbida Ileyali The film is also such an attempt. Director Chandrajith Belliyappa in his debut effort has crafted a simple beautiful fresh love story.

Chandrajith Belliappa has proved his mettle with his directorial debut Ibbani Tabbida Ileyali. The way Belliappa narrates the story is admirable. The movie, especially the climax scene where Vihan and Ankita Amar have outdone each other in terms of acting, is like a magic of love. Though the pre-intermission part is a bit slow, the movie gains momentum in the post-intermission session. Background score and beautiful locations add value to the movie.

The movie begins with a traditional marriage scene. Siddarth aka Sid (Vihan) is all set to tie the knot with Radha (Mayuri Nataraja). A girl holding a Polaroid camera and waving a photocopy makes Sid remember not only his mother who used to take photos with a Polaroid camera but also his lover Anahita (Ankita Amar) who has also used a similar camera to take photos. While his parents and Radha’s parents are busy with marriage arrangements, he decides not to cheat Radha by marrying her. He reveals his friendship and love with Anahita and leaves for Goa searching for her. At this juncture, the director introduces a flashback to narrate how Sid, a cricketer, happens to meet Anahita and falls in love with her. What happens to Sid? Will Sid meet Anahita in Goa? Whether or not Anahita agrees to meet him is what Ibbani Tabbida Ileyali is all about.

As far as the performances of the actors are concerned, Vihan is convincing as an angry young man and a cricketer. His performance as an affectionate lover who is ready to do anything to bring back a smile on his lover’s face is spot on. The football stadium scene where Anahita reminds us of a popular advertisement where a girl gets into a cricket ground is super.  Anahita, as a girl from Goa who does not know to speak Kannada properly, a concerned lover, and a cancer patient, walks away with all honours for her sterling performance. Mayuri Nataraja has acted well. It is good to see Girija Shettar, who earned fame for her performance in Telugu movie Geethanjali, on the silver screen after a long gap.

Music director Gagan Baderia has scored lilting and soothing music while cinematographer Srivathsan Selvarajan has done a fantastic job behind the camera.
We recommend this film for families to watch together.
