The icon of youth power star Puneeth Rajakumar gets the KARNATAKA RATHNA award posthumously. This was announced by Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraja Bommai on Tuesday evening at ‘Puneeth Namana’ at Bengaluru Palace.
Puneeth Rajakumar is the 10th one in Karnataka to receive the highest state award. It was Dr Rajakumar his father received in front of Vidhana Soudha when S Bangarappa was chief minister. In the same year Rashtrakavi Kuvempu was also announced as ‘Karnataka Rathna’.
In the later years for chief minister S Nijalingappa, Bharat Rathna NR Rao, Dr Devi Prasad Shetty, Bharat Rathna Bhimsen Joshi, Nadedaduva Daiva Sri Shivakumara Swamijiji, De Javare Gowda, Sri Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala received the award.

Puneeth Namana at Gayathri Vihar Palace started at 3.30 pm. The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce organized Puneeth Namana attended by the majority of cinema industry personalities.
Tamil actor Vishal stated that he would be taking responsibility for the social service of Puneeth Rajakumar.
The 120 children from Shakthi Dhama orphan house recited a song in memory of Puneeth Rajakumar.
The song penned by Dr V Nagendra Prasad Muthuraja Heththa Muththu Eththa Hoyitho…sung by Vijayaprakash was screened with clippings of Puneeth Rajakumar on screen.
Karnataka chief minister Basavaraja Bommai, former CMs BS Yediyurappa, Siddaramaiah, DK Shivakumar, cabinet colleagues such as Araga Gnanendra, Ashok, Anand Singh, BC Patil, Munirathna Naidu and other politicians attended the tearful ‘Puneeth Namana’.
