Champion is a pure commercial entertainer which combines all elements of a potboiler and serves as a very good debut for a promising new actor. In a single line, the plot is about an aspiring athlete (Siddanth as Sachin Dhanpal) whose aim is to represent the country at the international level. The trials and tribulations of life he has to undergo to achieve his dream forms the core storyline. 

Siddanth`s dreams are too big for someone coming from Thirthahalli and that too as the son of a police constable. In such a situation his dreams look imposable. But as a hero he has to overcome all odds. How does he do that? The director has relied on all commercial staples. But this makes for wholesome entertainment. 

There is the mandatory love story. The interesting twist is how he gets to know her through a cross connection. The romantic scenes and songs are well played out and fit in nicely with the overall plot.

There are a host of comedy actors in Champion including Chikkana, Girish Shivanna and Prasanth Siddi. They make the fillers entertaining and engaging. Meanwhile there is another subplot in the film about a gang of anti nationals smuggling fake currency notes. Though not entirely relevant to the main plot it adds a dash of intrigue to the film. 

What adds extra power to the film is the cast. Many of the top supporting cast is part of the film. So each scene is elevated by good performances. We have Chikkanna, Devaraj, Rangayana Raghu, Shobraj, Suman, Pradeep Rawat, Avinash, Adi Lokesh and others adding heft to the film. Leading lady Aditi Prabhudeva is as good as ever. And Sunny Leone in an item song is for the front benchers no doubt. Not surprisingly, it is one of the big highlights of the film. 

Sachin Dhanpal has made a promising debut and comes across as a capable actor who can act, fight and dance like a well trained actor. If you love mass masala films, Champion is the right choice among films released this week.
