THE PILLAR DEPARTS ? LAKSHMAN NO MORE

The Kannada cinema industry’s ‘Pillar of Brain’ R.Lakshman the producer of ‘Bangaradha Manushya’ the biggest grosser and maximum of 110 weeks run film – a record in the history of Kannada cinema – died on Saturday night at 8.50 pm. Effervescent in Kannada and English language the former SIFCC and KFCC President R.Lakshman aged 82 years was suffering from ill health and complication in passing urine put him on bed maximum of time.

While Bangaradha Manushya starring Dr.Rajakumar, Bharathi, Balakrishna and others was a top grosser a film directed by Siddalingaiah the veteran of Kannada cinema Lakshman was in the movement of good culture and quality cinema. He along with others fought against the dubbing culture and made remarkable growth in his career. The films like Uyyale, Bhale Huchcha, Devara Makkalu did well in the box office among the dozen films he produced.

On Saturday 20th June 2009 R.Lakshman was taken to treatment to fix the medical pipe to pass the urine. He was treated by famous doctor Dr.Javali at Workhardt hospital. Around 5 pm R.Lakshman left the hospital and took a glass of juice at the Airlines Hotel and reached home. He wanted to take rest and took a nap. He was asked to get up at 8.50 pm but he was dead by that time.

The 82 years old Lakshman leaves four daughters and a son the famous director of Kannada cinema Naganna. The cremation of Lakshman takes place on Sunday afternoon in Bangalore. The body of Lakshman is kept at his residence in Sadashivanagar, Bangalore.

Veteran stage actor theatre personality and journalist Akashavani Yeeranna A.S.Murthy remembering R.Lakshman disclosed that he worked as PRO of the film in the 70’s. It is the same AS Murthy the Akashavani Yeeranna was compelled to conduct the 100 days events at Woodlands Hotel in the typical ‘Yeeranna’ style. Dr.Rajakumar and R Lakshman insisted that AS Murthy should speak throughout the 100 days event in his typical style of ‘Yeeranna’.
