One of the storms in social life, a terrific actor, former English professor GK Govinda Rao a multi talented personality breathed his last in the early hours of Vijayadashami at his daughter residence in Hubballi. According to sources the final rites of GK Govinda Rao was held at Mukthi Daama in the morning. Character actor in ‘Hubli’ Kannada cinema of Kichcha Sudeep, died at Hubballi!

Aged 84 GK Govinda Rao from ‘Katha Sangama’ to ‘Re’ acted in over 100 films, his stint in theatre is fabulous, his days in Television serials is magnificent and his real life as professor of English from Bengaluru University is adorable.

G K Govinda Rao is considered as ‘Buddi Jeevi’ he was stormy petrel too. He was straight on the face in his observation. He even lashed at making at films in Gandhinagara as ‘Daridra’ (Wretched) producers like K Manju sought apology from Govinda Rao but he did not budge.

Govinda Rao took on the ideals of top writer like Dr SL Bhyrappa and flayed him. When he was a writer in the late 80’s, he screamed at one of his articles for wrong editing at the magazine editor of a leading English newspaper going to the office.

GK Govinda Rao cinema career started from Kaadu in 1973 and some of his notable films are - Katha Sangama, College Ranga, Arivu, Grahana, Bandhana, Aradhane, Thulasidala, Pithamaha, Krishna Nee Begane Baaro, Mithileya Seetheyaru, Dr Krishna, Sundara Kanda, Kadana, Simhada Mari, Prema Raga Hadu Gelathi, Choo Baana, Bhumi Taayi Chochchala Maga, Emergency, Kotreshi Kanasu, Kanooru Heggadathi, Munnudi, Kichcha, Pravaha, Vishnu Sene, Hubballi, Savira Mettilu, Buddivantha, Re and others.
